The artist of the month for November is Zoey Arceneaux. Who says you can't be both athletically and artistically gifted? As an Art I student I was impressed with her work, and now as a sophomore in Art II she is continuing to impress all of us.

Her style is best described as playful. There is usually a satisfying explosion of color. She might be having a conversation with a tablemate and appear to be completely carefree or unaware that she is making these intuitive marks that come together so seamlessly. I will spill the beans and tell you that one conversation did have her distracted enough to misspell astronaut...but you would never know. She's very good at working with mistakes.

Looking forward to the great things she will accomplish in the next two years! Take a break from looking at the scoreboard, and gander at these lovelies. I regret that many of her pieces have been taken home. One issue with trying to surprise people I suppose.

I missed doing an artist of the month post for October and it's nearly the end of November, but I'm going to share two fantastic students anyway.

First up is Miss Emily Jones. Behind that sweet smile and friendly demeanor is a very serious artist. You can watch her as she gets in the zone. It's like watching everything else around her disappear. There is suddenly nothing but her and the paper and the mediums she is working with.

If you ask her about her work, she will always point out the areas she is not pleased with. Not a bad attribute, but when you look at the artwork you will will have a hard time believing this to be true because even unfinished it is lovely. Her style is delicate and meticulous, and usually involves some deeper message about the beauty of humanity and our Earth.

Autumn is the definition of the creative soul. Just sit a little too close and you'll find yourself exploding with ideas. Nothing is too extreme for her to imagine. It isn't uncommon to find her with pastels or paint smudged on her face and up her arms with a messy top knot and an oversized sweater. It doesn't seem to matter what tool you put in her hand. She has finesse with charcoal, paint, pastels, pencil, watercolor, pen, acrylics, collage, and printmaking. She gets frustrated just like everyone else, and she doesn't always like the way things turn out; however, perseverance and patience are key and she's got gobs of it. I hope you enjoy this little smattering of her work. Please tell her how amazing she is!
